Tips on Writing #1: How I got started?

By | January 11, 2007

What do I do? You know, I have been thinking bout the issue of time managament… There are so many things that I would like to do, but I don’t know where to start… I am becoming interested in writing, much more than in the past and reading as a result. I would like to examine the issue of so many subjects, but truly I don’t know where to begin! It’s funny. Writing and reading ….

I have been thinking of the process of writing papers, blogs, articles, even an academic article, especially the composition process: how did I do it last time-I started with a brief statement in my own words of the issues at stake no citations, no crap to blur my own words. Then I began to rewrite sections of it as I completed my reading, it seems to me that the paper just grew and grew by itself as I did more reading. I didn’t sense the need for stages, but I definitely passed through stages that were less than clearly defined. It is somewhat like the diagram that was posed in the book on composition that I use for the basic philosophy of my class.

Now with my blogs coming along nicely these days, I am finding that the best clue to writing well is in fact the habit of regular writing! Nowadays, I try to write at least 500 words somehow somewhere. It seems like exercise, the more you do the more you can do!
