New Blog, New Plugins: Old Problems

By | December 21, 2013

I was installing a new plugin called CoScheduler… and again, I am frustrated… Why? Simple.

This is another ‘Premium’ product that expects users to pay $10 per month… but on install, on a new blog, it just doesn’t work. I can’t get past the screen that takes me to a new post in the get started section. I don’t want to run that, I want to see the overall experience. Instead, I’m stuck.

It won’t let me finish or exit the ‘getting started’ screens. It’s not the plugin that’s borked, it’s the software as service. It doesn’t particularly matter, as the plugin is not essential.

Unfortunately, because of past experience with other paid plugins, I’m now extremely suspicious of the paid plugins/themes for WordPress.

They’re often poorly coded, buggy, and inadequately tested. I’ve been burned before with paid plugins/themes… so now I swear, I believe the free plugins are better tested, better developed. They’re also much better value.
