It puzzles me … when people discuss Scottish Independence, as if it was something Scotland claimed. Rather, I think it is a reaction to the fact that England (at least the South East) left the United Kingdom a long time ago with its increasingly ‘dog-eat-dog’ triumphalist & conservative ideology. Scotland, and the people there, wouldn’t necessarily say that.

But it’s apparent that after Thatcher, Scotland and the NW of England became ‘alien’ in their own country. It’s hardly surprising, as a result, that Scotland wants to reclaim a vision of society that is as removed from the SE as it is far. If you talk to people in Scotland, you sense that they want a different, more caring, benevolent society; and independence seems to be the only route by which they can achieve this. http://ift.tt/1vrpx3O
