A lifetime in sales? Worth it for the right reasons!
Sep 7 at 1:01am by ObverseView
Before I became a business person, I viewed a sales career as something lower than life itself! Why? Who knows? I think that people view sales as persuading someone to buy something they don’t want or don’t need with money they may not have. In other words, totally immoral.
Why? Because, having been business for about 20 years on and off, I now have come to view sales as helping the ‘right’ customers find the ‘right products’ for themselves. And if you aren’t convinced your product is the right thing for that customer, you wouldn’t be wasting your time showing them how to get the most out of it.
More so, part of good sales is actually eliminating those customers who aren’t a good fit for your service or product, by politely directing them to something more suitable. In our business, we don’t aim to teach ALL the students in the local school English, but we do aim to teach those who want to learn English, how to speak, listen, read and write.
We also actively avoid recruiting students and parents who only care about exam scores, because while our students do well, their motivation means that they aren’t going to be satisfied customers.
Oddly, you can’t always tell why some customers buy from you, even if you are a successful sales person!
Driving Glasses, The Sun, and Scrooge!

One of the things that bothers me in our community is the scrooge like behavior that’s taken hold off in the wake of the last economic downturn. While it’s a good thing when uncertainty abounds to know what you can cut out, our community has taken to turning off the lights in the parking garage: fools.
Why? Because it’s actually quite dangerous: we used to have 8 tubes where there is now just one! Which makes it very difficult to see if you come out of the bright sunshine, wear julbo sunglasses to protect your eyes, and have tints on your car windows. It’s like driving at 20km/h into the dark fog.
So I told the community boss that this was an issue in our sector of the garage. But to no avail. I usually now turn on my own lights to make the driving lane a little easier! But. WTF. they’re too scrooge like to paint the parking lot in white or brighter colors, they don’t want to pay for the electricity, so. my guess. they’ll be paying compensation when someone is hit by a car driven by a driver who happens to fault the lack of lighting.
Just wait.

I like to buy the black and white postcards from this store. Increasingly, there are the best postcards in the modern era that I can find. So I thought I’d give them a little pitch.

Running a business
Jul 16 at 12:12am by ObverseView
It was about 30 years ago, but my parents ran a grocery store for about 2 years… well, I should say ‘ran it into the ground’. They made a lot of mistakes with the financing of the store, and allowed people who should have known better to make the decisions.
However, it was exciting at the beginning. When we started up, we got our candy store started, our first cash register (a precursor of the mmf drawer series), and my parents had the privilege of doing the accounts!
What a nightmare that must have been: remember this was 1978 and everything still had to be done by hand. No computers were on hand with spreadsheets or whatnot to automate the process.
It’s a staggering difference in our business: keeping a track of expenses and income has become almost mundane with the use of modern software, though we do hire a book keeper to sort things out for us!
But in 1978, it was all by hand! And my mother did it all, though she has almost no head for numbers! What does that prove?

Ipad: Where can I buy one?
Jul 11 at 1:01am by ObverseView
Do you get a sore bum from sitting too long in front of your PC? Needing hemorrhoids treatment?
I’d recommend an IPAD just to get you out of doors! You can take it anywhere you like: it’s a wonderful device. I even got to try it out for a couple of minutes, and somehow it feels absolutely ‘right’ to use it.
Of course, if you are needing more outdoor exposure, your IPAD should be the ideal tool to take with you, too.

Seven Floors of Bamboo Scaffolding: Amazing
Jul 4 at 10:10pm by ObverseView
Bamboo is a wonderfully strong material: in fact, the first impression I had of the properties of Bamboo was in my first visit to Hong Kong in 1992 when I saw it being used as a construction support on buildings there. I was amazed that Bamboo would hold up anything at all, but it is a naturally strong, and flexible natural material that is widely used in this part of Asia for construction.
Its uses don’t stop there, either. You will frequently come across bamboo used in making furniture, such as chairs, tables, beds, and even bamboo blinds because of its natural flexibility and innate strength. So, the next time you are looking at a piece, stop and wonder.

Would you like a custom RV?
Jun 22 at 11:11pm by ObverseView
If you thought custom RVs like this one were only for famous actors and sports stars, you might be wrong, if you can get the rv financing.
It would be wonderful to tour a continent or two in one of these machines, with all mod cons: a/c, satellite, fridges, sofas, PCs, etc… I imagine that it could be quite convenient if you can find parking spots.
Taiwan is just too small to own one of these and make it worth your while. But China or India? Who knows!

Contemporary Friends: Contemporary Sofas
Jun 17 at 11:11pm by ObverseView
We just purchased a new sofa from Ikea. Though it wasn’t particularly expensive, we really enjoyed having a comfortable new sofa to sit!
Was it one of the contemporary sofas that fetches thousands of dollars? Hardly.
We bought one that was inexpensive, suited our living room decor, and was particularly comfy. Also, we knew we didn’t want to fret about keeping it too clean. In dusty Taiwan, this is a real problem as many materials (fabrics, papers, woods…) don’t fare well over the years. The humidity here only makes things worse.
Overall, we’re very happy with our sofa!
