Pimples in London: Unglamorous

Walking around London these past few days has made me self-conscious. Parts of London have very glamorous people, especially around my hotel area.

So with spots on my face (I have some pimples), I’m feeling a little like Shrek might have done. I might pop into Boots tomorrow morning to buy some simple acne creams or even a light topical anti-biotic to reduce the swellings.

You’d think at my mature age I’d be over pimples, but I’m not.

Myths about Acne: Chocolate is bad for your skin!

I remember when I was young that I was always told eating too much chocolate was bad for me and my skin! What a pity … I loved chocolate very much when I was young… I do know that the sugar was indeed not so good for my teeth, but the chocolate it seems to have turned into a health food, if you believe the hype.

If you want to learn more and you’re worried about eating too much chocolate for your skin’s sake, don’t believe the myth about chocolate! Otherwise, you’ll just make yourself feel even worse with guilt.

Vitamins for the elderly, the kids, and everyone else, too!

Some websites recommend that expectant mothers buy prenatal vitamins… is this a wise move? Especially given the toxicity concerns that some overdoses of vitamins can cause in healthy adults.

Unless you are advised by a doctor, I’d urge caution because of the possible side-effects of overdoses of certain vitamins on the young fetus. Of course, malnutrition has its own issues, and should be addressed separately.

One sobering thought: "foods rarely deliver dangerous levels of water-soluble vitamins." So eating more apples or bananas won’t expose you to too many unnecessary risks of hypervitaminosis.

Panda Eyes Or Polar Bear Eyes?

If you wear sunglasses like I do in the summer, it’s possible you will have (not panda bear eyes from the dark circles but) polar bear eyes. Large white circles under your glasses left by the sunscreen that hasn’t given you a nice even tan!

I wonder what eye cream fixes polar bear eyes on a tanned face! Of course, with both trends still strong: one group of tan lovers will fret about this; while the other group of sun-screamers will worry about all the bad things the sun can do to our skin! Which side will you stand on?

Acne and Coffee: No link!

Does excessive coffee drinking really cause acne or other skin disorders? Well, I haven’t personally experienced that, but I do know that heredity is one factor in acne.

It does seem that some people do link coffee to excessive hormone production, but I don’t think that taking acne pills will help significantly. So if you, like me are cursed by excessive acne, don’t be made to feel guilty about this habit.

Seriously, there are an awful lot of people in the world who LOVE to tell you something is bad/good for you. On this one, ignore them. And don’t let them make you feel guilty: this will only add to your stress level!

Watch that flab: watch those abs – Neither may be real!

If you are using any kind of fat burner products, then you really need to see this video. Scott really points out how easy it is to fake a lot of the videos or photos you may see on the Internet. It can be as simple as sticking your gut out or pulling it.

Of course, Scott’s advice is also sensible. So check out the video and see what’s up.

Fruit, Vegetables and Exercise

You can find lots of sites on the Internet promoting all kinds of weight loss supplements, but do you know whether they are safe, proven, or effective? I’d suggest that you exercise caution when you chose any kind of product designed to help with weight loss: consult your physician esp. if you are more than a little ‘overweight’, take practical steps to improve your mobility each day, switch away from high calorie or high carb foods especially at dinner time, and drink more water. These can help you.

Common Medical Assumptions

You have to be fat to have high cholestrol levels.

I remember one of my old bosses, a thin lady with barely an appetite. Turns out she was a prime candidate for cholesterol treatment. Why? She had high cholestrols in her blood stream, and it seemed weird, at the time.

A common assumption about cholestrol is that you have to be fat to have poor cholestrol: that lady clearly was not fat. Yet she was required to take cholestrol medication to reduce her LDLs to a reasonable level.

Asthma means you can’t breath

While you may have breathing difficulties, one of the most common signs of asthma is the coughing. Yet most people assume a person with a cough has flu or a cold or that asthma means breathlessness. Not always true.

There are lots of medical assumptions we, as untrained and unknowledgable individuals, make every day regarding our own health and that of those around us. Care to add one?

Bellies: We may have too much, our porcine cousins may have too little!

It’s a funny world: we want to buy more pork bellies…. every day I hear the current prices of pork bellies on the commodity news, and as I turn on the net I see ads for burning belly fat. This proves an old adage: When we have too little, it’s always TOO little… When we have too much, it’s always TOO much. It’s rare to have just the right amount in the right place at the right time. Or perhaps that’s what we take for granted. But therein lies opportunity! Now, if only there was a way to transfer my ‘surplus’ to someone’s deficit! Hah!

Your wallet will lose weight even if you don’t!

If you are spending hours considering which are the best weight loss pills, save your time! They really don’t exist! Weight loss pills are simply a marketing ploy to get you to part with your cash, none of the them are PROVEN scientifically to be any more than that. Seriously.

You may find them useful to you, as a supplement to your regular regimen, but there are no guarantees, nor do I recommend them. In fact, some of the weight loss products on sale may actually be dangerous, illegal, or pointless.

The only sure thing is that your wallet will surely lose weight once you purchase these items: at $50~150 a bottle, that much I can guarantee!
